Riddle Quest update: smoother play ahead of the Jest release

Shorter matchmaking waits, smoother rewards and clearer Premium benefits: the latest Riddle Quest development work as we prepare for release on Jest.

Riddle Quest is getting closer to its planned release on Jest. Since the last development update, I've been working through platform feedback and refining what happens when you find an opponent, finish a riddle or return to an interrupted game.

The core remains the same. Read a clue, guess the word and use colour-coded feedback to work towards the answer. Classic Mode offers ongoing progression, the Daily Challenge gives you a fresh puzzle to return to, and Race to 10 adds head-to-head competition.

This update covers recent development work as of 17 October 2026. The public Jest release is still ahead, and the latest changes remain subject to final hosted checks and platform approval.

Less waiting for a race

One clear piece of feedback from Jest's first review was that finding a multiplayer opponent took too long. The previous matchmaking window could leave a player waiting a full minute before the game offered its Riddle Bot opponent.

That fallback window is now six seconds in the game code. Matchmaking still prefers another waiting player, but a quiet lobby should no longer mean sitting through the old minute-long search. The countdown and connection time are separate, so this is a change to the search window rather than a promise about total loading time.

Race to 10 keeps its shared questions, visible opponent progress and time penalties for hints and skips. Private friend challenges offer another way to arrange a match through Jest's invitation flow.

Keeping your place when play is interrupted

A race needs to handle more than an uninterrupted run. You might reload a page, lose your connection or return through an invitation after leaving a lobby.

Recent recovery work covers those situations, including restoring confirmed guesses and recovering an unfinished answer without replacing newer edits. I've also been tightening how the game handles delayed replies, cancelled invitations and completed matches that a player opens again.

The aim is to let you continue from the progress the game has confirmed. This work also protects against retries paying out the same reward twice. Multiplayer recovery remains part of the ongoing release checks.

A smoother finish after each riddle

Jest's feedback also pointed out that the reward screens asked for too many taps between puzzles. A win should make it easy to see what you've earned and move on to the next clue.

The latest interface work opens the reward chest automatically and animates the coins towards your balance. Level and achievement celebrations use compact tabs that advance automatically, with a prominent next-level action available once the game has confirmed completion.

The server grants the reward independently of the animation. You don't need to tap a chest to earn coins you've already won. These presentation changes are part of the current development work being checked ahead of release.

Clearer Premium benefits

The shop now explains what Premium includes. The recent subscription update adds 3,400 coins on the first verified active subscription sync, then another grant once 30 days have passed while the subscription remains active. Repeated account checks cannot grant the same allowance again.

The shop lists the coin allowance alongside Premium account status and renewal information. Players should be able to understand the benefits before deciding whether to subscribe. The updated benefit text is available across all 16 supported languages.

Where the Jest release stands

As of 17 October, a new development build is active on Jest for testing. Riddle Quest is still unpublished, and no revision is currently awaiting review. The first review returned feedback, and I'm working through the changes and verification needed before resubmission.

There is no confirmed public launch date yet. The next steps are to finish the hosted gameplay checks, verify the remaining review feedback against the release candidate and complete Jest's review process.

I'll share the playable release details here once publication is confirmed. Until then, the Riddle Quest project page has more about the game, and the earlier feature update covers Race to 10, friend challenges and solo progression in more detail.
